Using AI generated content for funeral or memorial ceremonies

Writer: Debbie Donnelly Funeral CelebrantDebbie Donnelly Funeral Celebrant

Is there a place for using AI generated words or poems for funerals ?

In the UK, the rules around publishing AI-generated poems depend on copyright laws and publishing regulations.

Copyright & AI-Generated Works

Under UK copyright law (Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988), copyright protection applies only to works with human authorship. AI-generated poems do not qualify for copyright unless a human has made significant creative contributions.

If AI-generated content is published, it is considered public domain unless a human has meaningfully edited or arranged it.

The thought of using generated impersonal words may not appeal but using an AI app can be really useful for creating a template or starting place. You can then add in personal information and thoughts or create a poem about a golfer or someone who loved to sew.

Whispers of You

I trace the echoes of your voice, soft whispers in the wind,

a fleeting touch, a distant laugh, a love that will not dim.

The world still turns, yet time stands still, your absence fills the air,

each empty chair, each quiet room, a weight too much to bear.

I reach for you in dreams at night, but morning steals you back,

and though the sun may rise again, my heart still wears the black.

The scent of home, your gentle hands,

the warmth I used to know, are woven into memories,

through tears that freely flow.

Yet in the sky, the stars still shine,

as if to light my way, a whisper soft, a mother’s love,

that never fades away.

Example poem about a keen cricketer

For One More Innings

The pitch lies still, the game now done,

The final over lost to sun.

Yet echoes of your bat still ring,

A life well played in endless swing.

The crease was yours, so bold, so true,

With steady hands and heart so blue.

You faced each bowler, fast or slow,

With courage only great ones know.

The field was wide, the sky so vast,

You played your game, you held it fast.

A flick, a drive, a six so high

Now soaring past the boundary sky.

Though stumps are drawn, the match complete,

Your memory stands, no small defeat.

For in our hearts, you’ll play once more,

An innings set forevermore.
